Stephan Bax argues that, "Our aim should be to attain a state of 'normalisation' in which the technology is invisible and truly integrated"

Summary

In this article author tried to make a computer as something ,which was existed from creation. He followed the beginning of the computer with the learning language (CALL) , and mention the three phases of CALL. At the end of article he explain  in how can normalisation occur. His point of view is to achieving normalization to make computer as the controled on the processing of the teaching in the classroom, and ignore the role of the teachers.

Reflect

Under if normalization could be applied to our Saudi context, yes I believe that the computer will be as integrated in the language teaching. CALL is going now to take its place in language learning institutions, and all  teachers almost independent on computer to facilitate language learning. For instant, teachers in Saudi Arabia use a lot of technology in teaching language such as smart board, projector, presentation,..... . The education in Saudi Arabia is developing so fast to Keep up with the modern developments, so that normalization could be applied in Saudi context. I think whatever we  achieve in normalization we cannot ignore the role of  teachers. Also, we cannot independent on the machines to control on the learning processes. People who are making the machines, and they are the only one who thinking. Therefore, machines it could be stop working suddenly for any reasons. So I don`t think that the normalization will be applied as the way that Stephen Bax imagine.

Yes, I believe that computer is extremely important, make our lives easier, and saves our times...

But, what if there is something happened in the computer. Should we cry or wait sometimes to fix it.

Teachers are the important element in the education, they are must have our attention. Inside of that, we should also improve CALL. Teachers and computer should integrate each others.

Stephen Bax claims that computer will be the dominant in language learning process, and ignore the important role of teachers "alongside coursebooks, teachers and notepads. They will go almost unnoticed."(Stephen Bax,12).This concept is a wrong idea, and imposipol to applied. For that we must turn our attention to develop teachers` skills.
