The role of WebQuests in learning a foreign/second language?

Webquest is structured into components which include an introduction (why do this activity), tasks (what is supposed to be accomplished), process (how to go about it), and an evaluative/concluding section. Often motivational elements are added (e.g., gaming aspect, extra credit, contest), which might include groups competing against one another. webquest is amount of information available to everyone will come directly from a growing number of sources without filtering or verification. Using WebQuests in classrooms stimulates critical thinking to build a solid foundation that prepares students for the future. Critical thinking is also critical inquiry, so such critical thinkers investigate problems, ask questions, pose new answers that challenge the status quo, discover new information that can be used for good or ill, question authorities and traditional beliefs.

Students have to make sense of what they are reading. They have to learn how to learn, learn how to work with each other, and to work with information that isn't, at first, clear. Therefore, students should be discus the outcome with group, prepare to work cooperatively with your group members, stay on task in fun and focus in use information rather than looking for it.

Students knowledge based on enquiry-oriented language use and web research skills. Many times students do not question, are not curious, and do not think for themselves. Most students, therefore, do not think for themselves, but they rely think of their friend.
A webquest can be thought of as a microworld, where students explore an issue in a learning environment that is both cooperative and contextual. Through an in-depth examination of web-based resources, students gather and synthesize information in collaboration with their peers to solve a problem. While, as a group, students who undertake a webquest interact and work together, each group member carries out a specific, meaningful role.

The class time necessitated by project-based learning forces the discussion of breadth versus depth to resurface. The in-depth investigations require more time, so less time may be spent on other content in the curriculum. almost all the examples of project-based learning attempt to capitalize on the successes of cooperative or collaborative learning in some manner.

Reflection on the Three Weeks

In these weeks I learned how to use wiki, delicious and blogs. These three websites are very benefit for students and teachers. they really can communicate very well with each others. It`s interesting and funny to use the technology in learning and teaching. Now we can send and receive our homework with out papers. Also, now we will never forget our homework in home because it`s not written in papers it`s send by websites.

Using blogs:
teacher using blog to communicate with her students. So, she can ask her students to post writing home work, and she comment on their writing. Also they can work as a group by following each other. furthermore, she can put many links for her students for more education. Also, she can post videos, pictures. She can ask her students to labeling sound records for listening lessons.
Using wiki:
Students can work together on collaborative projects, receive homework assignments, submit questions to the teacher and Use as an online graffiti space for personal expression. Also, teacher can monitor videos. In discussion distribution she can discussion the students problems. In notify
distribution send and receive the emails.
Using delicious:
In y links distribution the teacher can put homeworks and assignments for students, and any links can benefit to student. In my stacks distribution students can submit their homework. In my inbox teacher can receive and send message to students. Also, she can make files for each student .

EDU401

Stephan Bax argues that, "Our aim should be to attain a state of 'normalisation' in which the technology is invisible and truly integrated"

Summary

In this article author tried to make a computer as something ,which was existed from creation. He followed the beginning of the computer with the learning language (CALL) , and mention the three phases of CALL. At the end of article he explain  in how can normalisation occur. His point of view is to achieving normalization to make computer as the controled on the processing of the teaching in the classroom, and ignore the role of the teachers.

Reflect

Under if normalization could be applied to our Saudi context, yes I believe that the computer will be as integrated in the language teaching. CALL is going now to take its place in language learning institutions, and all  teachers almost independent on computer to facilitate language learning. For instant, teachers in Saudi Arabia use a lot of technology in teaching language such as smart board, projector, presentation,..... . The education in Saudi Arabia is developing so fast to Keep up with the modern developments, so that normalization could be applied in Saudi context. I think whatever we  achieve in normalization we cannot ignore the role of  teachers. Also, we cannot independent on the machines to control on the learning processes. People who are making the machines, and they are the only one who thinking. Therefore, machines it could be stop working suddenly for any reasons. So I don`t think that the normalization will be applied as the way that Stephen Bax imagine.

Yes, I believe that computer is extremely important, make our lives easier, and saves our times...

But, what if there is something happened in the computer. Should we cry or wait sometimes to fix it.

Teachers are the important element in the education, they are must have our attention. Inside of that, we should also improve CALL. Teachers and computer should integrate each others.

Stephen Bax claims that computer will be the dominant in language learning process, and ignore the important role of teachers "alongside coursebooks, teachers and notepads. They will go almost unnoticed."(Stephen Bax,12).This concept is a wrong idea, and imposipol to applied. For that we must turn our attention to develop teachers` skills.
